Pedestrian Suffers Head Injury After Being Hit In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A pedestrian was hit by a car while crossing the street diagonally at the intersection of Second Avenue North and Fourth Street North.

Minneapolis Police Sgt. William Palmer said the woman was in the driver's blind spot when she was hit around 7:30 a.m. The driver was exiting Interstate 94 at Fourth Street and turning left on Second Avenue North when he hit the woman.

The woman suffered what initially appeared to be life-threatening head injuries but has since stabilized.

Police are continuing to investgiate the crash.

Minneapolis Police are also urging caution for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to prevent these kinds of accidents from happening.

They say the city has seen a dramatic increase in pedestrian and bicyclist versus vehicle accidents in the past week. A fatal accident involving a bicyclist and a semi truck also occurred Thursday morning in the Dinkytown area.

The Minneapolis Police Department said in response to the increase in accidents, they have begun to step up enforcement of drivers not yielding to pedestrians and pedestrians jaywalking in congested areas. Enforcement of cyclists not obeying the rules of the road are also being increased.
