MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A new Comcast customer service center is opening in Minnetonka, Minn. and its bringing 450 new jobs with it.

The cable provider said the call center will open this summer and be staffed by more than 500 employees — 450 new loyalty agents, plus up to 75 management and support staff positions. The company said they will begin hiring for those positions right away.

Bill Wright, the senior vice president of Comcast’s Twin Cities Region, said that they are investing in new technology and tools in the new center too. Wright said that he believes that will help them respond better to customers.

  1. Congrats says:

450 jobs at $10.00 per hour.

    1. Congrats says:

      Sorry for being cynical.
450 jobs at 20.00 per hour with full benefits. That will be very beneficial to Minnesota.

  2. John says:

Actually – Comcast has good competitive wages and great benefits. They may not do everything right.. but they do try to take care of the employee’s.

  3. Thinking says:

Amazing, simply amazing. He already knows how much they’re paying, and it isn’t even mentioned in the article. Who was it that said, “better to remain silent and let people think you’re stupid, than to speak and remove all doubt”? Oh, yeah, a guy named Solomon, universally acclaimed as the wisest man who ever lived!

  4. KS says:

I’m pretty sure some of the unemployed around here would jump at the chance to earn $10 an hour. Which really isn’t that much less than I made when I first started at the title company I worked for, and I was doing a lot harder work than answering phones.

    1. D.C. says:

KS, you must have never worked in a call center. I have and it’s one of the worst jobs I’ve ever had! People yell at you, swear at you, tell you you’re a liar and demand this, demand that and you just have to sit there, take it and somehow remain polite! People don’t listen, some are brain damaged, senile or illiterate. The callers never accept an answer except the one they want and will say anything until they do. The worst place you want to be is between somebody and his money. It’s not just “answering phones”. $10 an hour? Ha! The salary of Donald Trump wouldn’t be enough!

      1. Ricky Rubio says:

haha, I am working in a call center right now. Its not that bad.

  5. thumbody says:

    KS need not apply

  6. Dave says:

Maybe they should look at lowering their rates so more people could afford cable. Then they could create even more jobs. Everyone in my neighbor hood is switching to Qwest.

  7. Someone how cares says:

Really a new call center in Minnetonka? Like people in Minnetonka are really going to work at comcast. Lets make things more convenient for the wealthy while the poor continue to struggle to find jobs and forced to live off the state. I’m sure there is no bus line to get there.

    1. M B says:

See, if they had put it in the Cheaper Northern Suburbs, then I’d work there, but down south I’d chew up all my earnings in gas.
I suspect that there’s a lot of people with the same feelings. Not to mention that Minnetonka is considered a rich suburb.
The VP of that division must live down there and doesn’t want to have to drive far…

  8. MONOPOLY in the Mkt says:

Comcast just raised thier rates effective 4/1. They have a monopoly on the market in many citties in town. I’m assuming the rate increase on top of thier already astronomical rates is the reason they were able to fund more positions.

    1. M B says:

Not a complete monopoly. You can always get satellite and get DSL from your Phone company or wireless broadband from your Cell provider.

There’s always options, it’s just that they may not be great ones. Personally, Comcast has stunk in our neighborhood for years and I went to satellite and DSL through Qwest and never looked back.

    2. Jon says:

Yep, My bill with a “locked in rate” rose $2. Equipment fees are not part of those promotional prices and can go up at any time..

      1. jacob says:

Yes jon. and if you were at another company like direct TV. with your 2 year agreement your bill would have been raised close to 21%. where as the AVERAGE rate increase on comcast bills this year was 2.5%. so a customer that was paying direct TV $100 is now paying them $121, and a customer that was paying comcast $100 is now payiing comcast $102.50. I guess that is something to get upset about.

    3. Jacob says:

Yet comcast still beats most comapnies dollar for dollar at FULL RATE prices. You can get an 6mg internet from QWEST for $60.00 full rate, not on promotion or 2 yr agreement, and get get a 8mg internet from comcast at $49.99, or even try a 15-19mg (with powerboost) from comcast for $57.95 regular price. So when you astronomical prices, you must be talking about all internet, TV, and phone providers.

  9. Albert says:

No surprise Comcast needs another place to field complaints, considering how they SUCK IN STEREO for customer service (or any service for that matter)

  10. Chris says:

While I am not a fan, they have good reliable and fast internet service. I don’t waste my money on their expanded cable services. Just internet and basic 1 because its cheaper to subscribe to both products than internet alone. Sure it has to do with some kind of political subscriber count,

  11. kellbell says:

What a bunch of complainers you are! My sister works at a comcast call center in Colorado and makes about $16/hour. She has only worked there for 3 months. Additionally, I’ve had Comcast service since 2005 and I love it. Way better than satellite in my opinion. Now I don’t know what they’ll pay here, but 450 new jobs is huge!

  12. lib says:

Let’s see light rail is producing 570 temporary jobs at a cost to taxpayers of aproximately $850,000 per job. Comcast is bringing in 450 jobs at a cost to taxpayers 0. The difference between socialism and capitalism.

  13. lique2u says:

I went to the Comcast website to apply for the “call center” representative position, but there was no link with which to apply. If they are accepting “immediate” applications, I certainly can’t seem to locate the link.

    1. Shugie DaWongpuddytat Matthews says:

The name of the position you are looking for is called CAE (Customer Account Executive)

      1. lique2u says:

Actually, I went to the CBS website and found the article regarding the news story about these “450 MN Call Center” positions. According to the story, the name of the position they are hiring for is “Loyalty Agent,” not Customer Account Executive.

        Here it is:

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A new Comcast customer service center is opening in Minnetonka, Minn. and its bringing 450 new jobs with it.

The cable provider said the call center will open this summer and be staffed by more than 500 employees — 450 new loyalty agents, plus up to 75 management and support staff positions. The company said they will begin hiring for those positions right away.

  14. neddflanders says:

I have worked in a call center before. It’s a job if anything. If I was unemployed and had to feed my family I would do it again in a heartbeat. I think one of the problems is that some people are to comfortable living off the state and their unenjoyment benes. I guess its all about your priorities.

    1. Kim says:

I totally agree with your commit. So true.

  15. Kim says:

Ok first of all how does anyone know how much you make there starting out. I’m sure you are guessing, you never know it could be more depending on your experience. Plus $10 is better then nothing and not making any money or working for a fast food place or ? and making less then $10. or being in unempoyment and making less then $10. Plus you would get benefits. Hopefully you start out more then $10 but least its a job and making that much it could be worse.

  16. Kim says:

I do agree they should lower there cable packages it’s getting little to high and they could loss there customer’s.

  17. Valerie says:

That’s right. I work in a call center & it’s not much fun. $11.00 hr & have to pay $650.00 mo for health insurance. One of the reasons it went up couple years ago is to pay for the Somali’s so they get FREE health care. I sure as heck won’t quit my job though till something better comes along.

  18. L says:

This is a nice big coverup from Comcast…..I am one of the recently LAID OFF employees from Comcast. Yes. Laid off. See at Comcast, they lay you off in “batches” so it doesn’t hit the news. They have been doing this for YEARS, and their excuse is Coporate Restructing. Now to Minnesota this company looks like heros who are adding jobs to the economy, when/if you drive by the Saint Paul location you will see a desolate parking lot that use to be a lot more full than it is now. It is only because every few months layoffs come in waves. So my advice to the new employees in Minnetonka, remember they hired you for cheaper, Comcast NEVER let’s ANYONE retire, and always keep looking for another job, because it is only a matter of time before yours is gone, whether you are in management or not.
