Police Investigate Robberies, Assaults Near U Of M

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minneapolis Police Department is asking for the public's assistance for information related to a series of robberies and assaults that have occurred near the University of Minnesota campus.

Police say several suspects could be involved but they have reason to believe the same suspects were involved in the four separate incidents.

Two of the incidents occurred at 3:25 a.m., Feb. 20 at Eighth Street and 14th Avenue Southeast and at 4 a.m., Feb. 20 at Fifth Street and 14th Avenue Southeast.

The other two occurred at 11:45 p.m., April 19 at Fifth Street and 12th Avenue Southeast and at 12:20 a.m., Thursday at Seventh Street and 12th Avenue Southeast.

The suspects have been described as Hispanic men -- and in one case, a Hispanic woman was also identified. All suspects are said to be between 18 and 25 years old. In one case, they left the scene in a dark-colored sedan.

In Thursday's incident, the victim said the men were all dressed in similar clothing, wearing black zip-up hooded sweatshirts with white T-shirts and black pants.

One suspect is described as heavy-set with a shaved head and unshaven face. He is said to have acne or pock marks on his face, as well. Another suspect was described as having a thin build and military-style haircut.

No weapons were seen in the incidents, but police say the suspects are becoming more brazen.

Anyone with information should call the Minneapolis Police at (612) 673-2941 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
