Fallen Officers Memorial Unveiled In Maplewood
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (WCCO) -- On the one year anniversary of his death family, friends and law enforcement pay tribute to a Maplewood police officer killed in the line of duty.
Sgt. Joseph Bergeron was shot and killed while searching for two carjacking suspects. On Sunday, a fallen officer's memorial was unveiled in Maplewood in honor of Bergeron.
His wife and two daughters were on hand to show off the statue.
The Maplewood Police Department raised $100,000 to build the memorial which is outside of the police building.
Bergeron served the department for 25 years. He was the first Maplewood officer ever killed in the line of duty.
