Electric Cars Have The State Fair Grounds Buzzing

By Frank Vascellaro, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Expensive gasoline is good for one thing: it increases interest in electric cars.

You can get a ride in one of several electric cars Saturday and Sunday at the State Fair grounds and even check out a solar car port.

"We don't have many electric cars available in our market yet, and many people have heard about them. But really it's a great thing to be able to experience them, so people can come here, and get a test ride," said Jukka Kukkonen of Plug In Connect, an organization that educates people about sustainable transportation.

The cars available for testing are the Chevrolet Volt, the Transit Connect, the Telsa Roadster, the Ford Escape, the Toyota Highlander. Many of these models are hybrid cars to which a battery pack has been added. The event also showcases original hybrid/electric cars.
