3-Year-Old Donates Hair To Locks Of Love

By Amelia Santaniello, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Most kids want to get presents on their birthdays, but a Bloomington girl is giving her hair to charity to celebrate her fourth birthday.

Rubie Sundberg, 3, and her mom, Emilie, both donated their hair Friday morning to Locks of Love, a charity that makes wigs for children who suffer from diseases that cause long-term hair loss.

Rubie loves long hair. She sees it on her mother, her female relatives and on Disney princesses. And according to her mom, she equates long hair with beauty.

Yet, Rubie wanted to donate her hair as soon as her mother suggested that they should do it together.

"She was telling me yesterday, 'Mom, we're gonna give my hair to a little girl who doesn't have any, so she can have beautiful hair like me,'" Emilie Sundberg said.

Rubie's stylist, Jennifer Hearn, was impressed by her donation.

"I think it's amazing that you have something you can offer as a gift, and it's great that Emilie can teach Rubie that," Hearn said.

Some salons, like Cole's in Eagan where Rubie went, offer a free cut to anyone who is donating hair to Locks of Love.
