Mayor Says Mpls. In Need Of 'Random Acts Of Kindness'

By Holly Wagner, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Mayor R.T. Rybak says many of the people showing up at the disaster recovery center after last weekend's tornado are without power and are in need of food and water.

Rybak says the biggest issue they're facing is how to feed everyone because many lost everything in their refrigerator and freezer once the power went out.

He is encouraging inter-faith groups to team up in an effort to provide food for those in need, saying the city needs "random acts of kindness" to help with recovery.

Meanwhile, the University of Minnesota will be organizing groups of volunteers to continue going into neighborhoods and giving out supplies. The University's Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center will be organizing volunteers Friday and Saturday.

Rybak said the city is also in the process of planning a 'build-a-thon' to help with home repairs -- possibly next weekend.
