Sheriff: Shot Fired At Canoeists

BEMIDJI, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident involving two people threatening a group of canoeists with a gun.

According to Sheriff Phil Hodapp, eleven people were visiting their property in Beltrami County Saturday evening.

The group of people was canoeing down Darrigan's Creek when they were confronted by a man and woman who accused them of trespassing.

The canoeists told the two they were on public water, but one of the two people accusing the canoeists pulled a gun and pointed it at the group.

The person then fired a round at the ground and again pointed the gun at the group, according to the sheriff's office.

The two, who have not yet been identified by authorities, were taken into custody and face potential criminal charges.
