6-Year-Old First-Time Biker A YouTube Sensation

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It is a YouTube video that has exploded online over just a couple of days. A young child, so excited after he rides his bike for the first time without falling.

More than 1.4 million people have watched Owen Kosevich, sporting a bike helmet and his contagious spirit. Owen's dad, Nick, said he shot the video with Owen's iPod in Bemidji, at Nick's parents home. Owen lives in a Twin Cities suburb.

In the video, Nick asked Owen if he had any advice for other kids looking to ride a bike.

"Everybody, I know you can believe in yourself. If you believe in yourself, you will know how to ride a bike," Owen said.

The message even surprised his dad.

"He's not prompted, it's amazing he stands on the curb, he has his soap box there," laughed Nick.

In the video, Owen continues, "If you don't you just keep practicing. you will get the hang of it, I know it."

"He didn't wanna ride the bike, when he finally got it, it was a good breakthrough for both of us," Nick said.

Owen's mom, Kathryn Dangers, put the video on a newly created YouTube account last month, intending to share it with friends and family.

"I didn't think anything of it, because this is very Owen," Dangers said. "We have lots of clips of Owen-esque speeches and energy."

At the end of his video, Owen's dad asks him to "Give me some thumbs up" to which Owen responds, "Thumbs up everybody! For rock and roll!"

"I'm not sure where he got thumbs up for rock and roll. I don't think either of us have said that. But I agree," laughed Nick, a Twin Cities bartender, and owner of Bittercube, a craft cocktail bitters company.

Two weeks ago, the video had a couple thousand views. As of last Thursday, it had 300,000 views. Friday, it was at 600,000. And on Monday, it was at 1.4 million views.

For Owen, it's a simple message.

"Believe in yourself means you have to try every time," he said Monday at a Golden Valley park.

His parents said it's something they always tell Owen.

"Yeah. We have a lot of those mantras in our house, because they work," Dangers said.

The video is definitely gaining momentum, but is this it for Owen?

"I hope it's not his 15 minutes of fame. I think he has a few more minutes of fame left," Nick said.

Monday morning, the family appeared on ABC's Good Morning America. According to Dangers, they're going to also be on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Fox & Friends while they're in New York City.

"We have lots of moments like this we capture. Both me and his mom are going through all of it, saying 'That is also very funny.' 'This is also a good thing we might want to share with the world,'" Nick said.
