Twins Draft Pudge's Son Plus Some Area Players

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Twins have picked the son of a major league star and some local players on the second day of the Major League Baseball draft.

The Twins took former Eden Prairie High School standout Madison Boer in the second round Tuesday. The right-hander went 3-6 with a 2.27 ERA as a junior at Oregon this season.

Then they chose Dereck Rodriguez, the son of 14-time All-Star catcher Ivan Rodriguez of the Washington Nationals, in the sixth round. The younger Rodriguez played center field and pitched for Monsignor Edward Pace High School in Miami.

The Twins also took right-hander Jason Wheeler in the eighth round, the Northwoods League pitcher of the year for the St. Cloud River Bats last summer. They selected left-hander Austin Malinowski of Centennial High School in the 16th round. They picked University of Minnesota junior shortstop A.J. Petterson in the 25th round, formerly of Minnetonka High School.
