EPA Announces 'Great Lakes Week' For October

DETROIT (AP) -- A partnership that includes the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is planning to hold a new event called "Great Lakes Week" this fall.

The EPA announced Wednesday that it will take place Oct. 11-14 in Detroit. The theme is "Working Together, Taking Action."

The aim of the events is to bring together representatives from U.S. and Canadian governments, as well as public and private groups, to focus on solving problems facing the Great Lakes. It aims to advance the goals of the federal Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

Key issues facing the lakes include water quality and invasive species.
