Nurse Sentenced For Stealing Pain Reliever From Hospital

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- A 31-year-old registered nurse was sentenced Wednesday for pretending to be a nurse from a Coon Rapids hospital in order to steal a pain killer.

Maria Anne Mihalik, of Superior, Wis., was sentenced to three years of probation, including 180 days in a halfway house and 150 hours of community service. She pleaded guilty to one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud in March.

According to her plea agreement, Mihalik admitted going to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids on May 5, 2010 and stealing the drug, Dilaudid, for personal use.

Mihalik's attorney, Robert Lengeling of Minneapolis, says Mihalik is taking federal probation "very seriously."
