2 Killed In Eau Claire Crash

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- Two people have died in a crash on a bypass in Eau Claire, Wis.

Police say a 44-year-old man and an 89-year-old woman were killed Wednesday afternoon on the Highway 53 bypass, north of the Highway 312 overpass.

Authorities say the man was driving a pickup truck that crossed the median into oncoming traffic and was struck by a van. The elderly woman was a passenger in the van.

The Chippewa Herald says the pickup driver was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person in the van was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
