SBA Declares Hennepin Co. A Disaster Area
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- More help is on the way for people recovering from the tornado that hit Minneapolis in May. This time it's low-interest loans due to a disaster declaration from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The state government announced the SBA granted on Thursday Gov. Mark Dayton's request for a disaster declaration for Hennepin County.
The move makes available low-interest loans to residents, homeowners, businesses and not-for-profit organizations in Hennepin, Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Ramsey, Scott, Sherburne and Wright counties.
The SBA provides the loans for physical and economic damage caused by a declared disaster. People may be eligible for financial assistance from the SBA even if they don't own a business.
The May 22 tornado developed with little warning and roared over 14 miles, from Golden Valley to Blaine.
