Fierce Winds, Lightning Cause Damage In Forest Lake

FOREST LAKE (WCCO) -- Downed power lines, trees in streets and a damaging lighting strike have caused insurance nightmares for some Forest Lake residents.

For homeowner Dawn Nelson, a lightning bolt caused a tree to topple on top of all three of the cars sitting her driveway. The most precious to Nelson: a 1973 Chevelle Laguna she was trying to sell.

About a block away, towering power poles were brought to the ground by winds, meaning no air conditioning for some in Monday's 90 degree temperatures. Even stop lights wouldn't work.

The same fierce winds knocked down a huge tree onto one of the main streets in town.

The insurance company has already been in the area and they are going to let the homeowner know what they can do later on Monday.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Xcel Energy said that most customers that had no power should have it back.
