Big-Ticket Drugs Soon To Be Available In Generic Form
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some of the world's most popular drugs will soon be available to millions of people in generic form, which means cheaper prices, among other benefits.
Some of the most popular drugs going generic include cholesterol fighter Lipitor, the blood thinner Plavix and the anti-depressant Lexapro.
Because generic drugs can cost 20 to 80 percent less than brand names, doctors hope the lower prices will mean more people can get the treatment they need.
Last year, the average co-pay for generics was $6 dollars, compared to $24 dollars for brand names.
