Growing Use Of Designer Party Pills In Twin Cities

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The newest trend in dangerous drug use in the Twin Cities may be designer party pills.

"They really are forming a new emerging trend," said Carol Falkowski, the state's leading expert on illegal drug use.

Falkowski says calls to the Regional Poison Center for psychoactive drugs marketed as bath salts grew from six in 2010 to 26 in the first quarter of this year.

"Just because something is on the Internet -- and you can get it on the Internet -- doesn't mean it's legitimate, legal or safe in any way," said Falkowski.

Thursday's six-month update on drug trends in the Twin Cities also finds no real let-up in the use of heroin or prescription drugs.
