Accused Hibbing Mayor Attacker Denied Venue Change
HIBBING, Minn. (AP) -- A 30-year-old charged with attempting to rob Hibbing Mayor Rick Cannata, a friend and their wives in May won't get his trial moved.
The Daily Tribune reports a judge has denied the request of Daniel Jordan Thurstin, who faces four felony counts of robbery and one of terroristic threats as well as a gross misdemeanor count of assault. He's pleaded not guilty.
Thurstin is in custody on $100,000 bail. His trial is Aug. 8.
Also facing charges are 17-year-old Thunder Cloud Jose Rodriguez, of Hibbing, who allegedly bit Cannata above his eye, and 20-year-old Jeffrey Michael Hoshal, of Hibbing.
Last month, Rodriguez is certified to stand trial as an adult and he's being held without bail.
Hoshal hasn't entered a formal plea and was released on pretrial release conditions.
