U Of M Urges Students To Learn Campus Traffic

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota is urging new and returning students to come check out campus now, before move-in at the end of the month.

They are doing so because of this summer's Central Cooridor Lightrail construction, which has Washington Avenue torn up.

Detour and closed signs are now posted throughout campus, but because Washington Avenue handled about 25,000 cars a day, students will need to get used to the changes.

The university is also rolling out a safety campaign in two weeks. It's called "Safety is Easy, Pavement is Hard." It asks everyone, no matter what their mode of transportation, to follow the rules and pay attention.

Simple tips, like looking both way before crossing the street, are part of the rules.
