Police: Wis. Bicyclist Killed By Distracted Driver

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Wisconsin bicyclist died after suffering serious injuries Friday when he was hit by a driver who was distracted by her children, Sawyer County police said.

Police said 62-year-old David Landgraf, of Bloomer, Wis., died around 3 p.m. Monday at a Duluth hospital.

A police report paints this picture of the accident that took Landgraf's life: 24-year-old Anna Amparo, of Hayward, Wis., was driving a Mitsubishi Galant Friday at 6:50 p.m. on STH 27 near Sand Lake when she turned around to talk to her two children. When she looked back toward the road, Amparo found Landgraf riding his bicycle just before her car.

Amparo tried to swerve and avoid hitting Landgraf, but she was unsuccessful, police said. The collision threw Landgraf off his bike, and he landed in a ditch.

An ambulance took Landgraf to Hayward Area Memorial Hospital, and he was then transferred to a Duluth hospital where he subsequently died.

According to police, Amparo and her children suffered no injuries.
