MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Twins fans got a pretty big surprise at Monday’s game, and WCCO-TV was in on it.

When Bert Blyleven circled a fan early in the game, it turned out to be Ellen DeGeneres, who said that her first trip to Target Field was also her first trip to a major league ballpark.

“If I’m going to see a baseball game, my first baseball game is going to be in Minnesota,” DeGeneres said in an interview with Fox Sports North.

DeGeneres praised Target Field, saying it was beautiful, clean and showed no signs of spitting.

“It’s very green, which is very responsible of them. So I like it,” she said.

According to Twins fans Ryan and Emily Rother, who sat next to DeGeneres, it didn’t take long for her to embrace the concept of Minnesota nice.

“She was very friendly and very nice,” Ryan Rother said.

During the game, DeGeneres was also active on Twitter. She asked the Minnesotans following her what she should do while in Minnesota.

She tweeted: I’m at Target Field! Did y’all know this year’s the 20th anniversary of the Twins winning the World Series? Good day to be in MN.

DeGeneres is in Minneapolis to promote her move to 4 p.m. on WCCO-TV this fall.

If you want a chance to see DeGeneres in person, you’ll want to show up in downtown Minneapolis around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday by the Mary Tyler Moore Statue in front of Macy’s. There will be another surprise, and WCCO-TV is also in on it.

You’ll also be able to see DeGeneres every weekday at 4 p.m. on WCCO-TV, starting on Monday, September 12.

The last tweet DeGeneres made in Minnesota Monday was this: It’s been a beautiful day at Target Field. Plus, I got circled by Bert!

Welcome to Minnesota, Ellen! Minnesotans love your show!

When you’re going to throw numbers out like that, Reverend, you’ve gotta include citations. Kinda like how you give us Bible verses when you want to support your views against same-sex marraige.

      1. sad but true says:

        ….She’s super freaky

    2. Matt says:

its not a lifestyle or a choice you idiot. stop being a sinful prick and let people live their lives. Also do not come here and make up numbers you idiot.

      1. Valerie Knosalla says:

I cant believe people like the “reverend” spew their opinion out loud with nothing but hate and call themselves Christian.

        1. meow says:

Valeria… it’s all weaponizing a religion to fulfill ego based needs of insecurity. People who are secure with both their sexuality and faith simply don’t go around projecting onto others. Phelps is a classic case of Psychological Projection. Sigmund Freud had it right about how humans think.

I’m actually Phelps is online here expressing this dysfunction for all of us to be aware of and learn from so we don’t make those same unintelligent mistakes.

          1. meow says:

I meant, I’m GLAD Phelps is online here. I have no hate for him btw. I have sympathy that he lives his life so brainwashed and feeding his ego through religion. It’s sad because we have a nation with millions just like him who honestly think and believe they are doing the right thing. The delusions with be dropping though, pretty fast as 2012 approaches.

            1. Far be it from me says:

meow, you sound really cute… Any comment? 🙂

              1. meow says:

                ….. lick, purrrrrr, lick, purrrrrrr ( 11:11 ) wink

                1. Far be it from me says:

Are you concerned about your status with him? 😉

        2. Valerie Knosalla says:

Helllllll NO! People have the right to be who they are, without some bible thumping know-it-all saying they are a sin. That is a hateful way to live life and hurts others. I’m done with you now.

      2. Danforth Taylor says:

        Fail troll is fail.

      3. B from Mpls says:

You don’t have to be a hateful bigot to be a Christian, Phelps.

Matt can be a Christian and still believe, as Jesus did, that we are not to pass judgement on others.

      4. Twins FAN says:

Where does God claim the abomination? Your ideas. Buy a new set of luggage. The voters are voting again, and you will be sadly disappointed. But I will never understand why. So much wasted energy on hatred, so sad. Sins? Really, guess we all are in this together. But I am so glad you are not with us, for you are on your own. And yes, that makes you a minority. Enjoy!

      5. meow says:

God doesn’t state anything. This is your own projection from a book that was written by a primitive man and indoctrinated or horrifically tortured into people’s belief systems over several thousand years.

ANYONE who states they know what God wants is operating from their SUPER-EGOIC MIND … it’s a mental dysfunction. It is INSANITY

      6. meow says:

God doesn’t need you worrying about other people’s sins. God will be the ultimate judge in the spirit realm. I suggest learning about your EGO.

Eckhart Tolle or OSHO have some great books to read. Might bring you to a new spiritual level of understandings to allow others to simply be themselves without you needing to project outdated religious laws that have no basis in reality.

did the usher scold her for kissing her mate?

  3. Jake says:

BARF. So effing what that she showed up for a ballgame. This is news?

    1. Tonya says:

Sometimes it’s nice to read something other than a story about a shooting/killing, a driving fatality, animal cruelty, domestic abuse, missing children, war, solidiers being killed, the country falling apart, ….. etc. So THANK YOU, WCCO, for some refreshing, upbeat “news.”

      1. meow says:

        @Tonya… AGREED … FULLY … Thank You WCCO !!!

      2. meow says:

What’s next Phelps? Are you to bent and motivated to WEAPONIZE a religion to turn people against one another? Is that your self-serving megalomaniac goal in life? Are you getting a sick rise over telling others “You’re bad and I’m better” to feed your ego? Dude, get some therapy. Nobody is buying your con or religious scam unless they are just as unintelligent and need some fuel to stoke the fires of their own hate in their hearts.

        1. meow says:

You sound like a conformist. Sorry, not everyone is brainwashed into your religion that you obviously are so insecure with that you are bent on others to follow. That is a Hitler mentality. It’s seriously dysfunctional. We live in a country of diversity and freedoms and liberty… not religious suppression.

I suggest dropping the doctrine and dogmas and learn about other religions. Buddhism is a nice one… you won’t need to go around trying to enlist people with delusional fantasies.

          1. Reverend Phelps says:

The only way to Heaven is through God, meow. Do you follow the teachings of God? He has laid out the path clearly for us, and only asks that we walk it, in order to inherit the Kingdom of God after our time on this earthly plane has ended. We can all celebrate in paradise together. His love for us is indefinite and perfect already. 🙂

            1. meow says:

Phelps, I follow the study of the Chakra System. It’s still has a basis of bio-spiritual science that is more realistic to my human-spiritual evolution without having to believe in grossly exaggerated stories or have to eat the body (cannibalism) or drink the blood (vampirism) of the Christian’s Christ… which is seriously sick IMO. Plus it doesn’t promote an “Us against Them” mentality or deal with having the “enlist followers and suck out their money”. (parasitic)

            2. Andrew says:

Mr Phelps, you do not know your bible nor God.

              1 Corinthians 13

1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, [1] but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; [2] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

            3. Matt says:

if god was a god he would accept any of his children that he created. If you fail to see that logic you fail as a human are are just an animal.

        2. Matt says:

Religion – A contagious mental illness often passed from parents to their children.

        3. Metal DJ says:

Religion, and the need to force it upon others is, and has been responsible for most of the world’s problems.

      3. em0886 says:

Hahahahahahahahaha you are absolutely insane!! I think Ellen is great, she’s funny and she loves the woman she is with…I don’t understand the problem with same sex marriages…does it physically and emotionally hurt you? Does it infringe on your rights as a citizen? I am going to go with….NO! This is something that is not up to you…..it’s America remember…that little thing called freedom of choice…and I personally feel that love isn’t a choice…you just fall in love with someone..you don’t sit there and decide …hmmm I think today is a good day to fall in love with this person. Thanks for the good laugh though!

  4. sue says:

Jake, Jake, Jake. So negative and immature. Try to be a better person dear. Good luck.

    1. Jake says:

So did she show up with her ‘wife’ (or would that be ‘husband’)? Did she arrive in a limo, so she could hit all of the ‘trendy’ bars, and not get a DUI? Did she stay in a ‘upper class’ hotel?

  5. Bryson Powers says:

She’s a good comedian. I don’t care about her personal life.

    1. Matt says:

you don’t need to care about her personal life. we don’t care about your personal life.

  6. JamieinMN says:

    <3 Ellen! 😀

  7. Just the facts says:

I think it’s awesome that a celebrity like Ellen DeGeneres was at our Twins Target Field!
Wish I was sitting near her, it’s not everyday you get to meet a celebrity! Remember, Minneapolis/St. Paul is considered the “Little Apple” not the Big Apple! Exciting!!!

  8. Kris says:

Too bad the Twin lost! I’ve been a fan of Ellen’s since the 80’s! Glad to hear her show will be airing at 4:00 pm, now when I get home from work I can watch it!

  9. meow says:

Ellen is a wonderful human being who does a MASSIVE amount of good for other people in this world. It is an honor that she came to visit our home of MN. Also, her peaceful marriage isn’t hurting anyone or making other people’s marriage implode. I wish her and her wife all the best in their lifestyle of love.

    1. meow says:

You are a total hypocrite. God doesn’t need you to be his “spiritual enforcer”. This is all your ego getting a rise over being right over other people. It’s sad you fall for the religious garbage of the Bible that is grossly outdated. But again, you are a total hypocrite and not qualified to vote on how other peaceful people (adults) should or shouldn’t love one another.

      1. meow says:

LMAO … oh the dualism!!! The “Boogie Man” un-evolved fear-based tired story of the Hero and the Villain in the cosmic religious sense.

So do you still believe in Santa and the Tooth Fairy? I bet at Halloween you stand in the pumpkin patch waiting for the GREAT PUMPKIN too. Dude, seriously, GROW UP or maybe get some therapy to dissolve your delusions.

    2. em0886 says:

Honestly…give it a rest….God wants you to shutup!!

      1. em0886 says:

Clearly towards the so called Reverend

        1. Valerie Knosalla says:

Reverend…you need to stop posting your opinion, YOU are a sin. Shame on you.

          1. Reverend Phelps says:

Nearly 85% of Minnesota’s registered voters agree with me. That makes you the vocal minority, ladies.

    3. B from Mpls says:

Your hatred is truly un-Christ-like. You disappoint the 90% of Christians who are welcoming of gay people and who think people like you set us back 1,000 years.

  10. Cadita says:

sooo, you leave the hate-filled posts up, but wont let my comment post when I refute them – nice

  11. em0886 says:

    Shutup with your nonsense!

  12. Danforth Taylor says:

I was there, and she waved to me! I texted about 20 of my friends about it. 😀 Even though it stinks that the Twins gave up so many runs mid to late game after pulling ahead early, it was still awesome to see her! I love how she even got the Joe Mauer trivia right. Ellen, you need to come visit Minnesota all the time!

  13. Valerie Knosalla says:

    1. Valerie Knosalla says:

      I love her show too.

  14. T says:

I thought this was a story about Ellen visiting MN, not about her PERSONAL life? I just don’t understand why people feel the need to comment on stories when the comment has nothing to do with the story…what ever happened to the Golden Rule? “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you”

  15. roni says:

wow….i can’t believe all of this stemmed from a fun, upbeat story about a PERSON (doesn’t really matter about gender, sex, religion, etc.) She is well known and its good to see that she sat with the regular people and had a good time at our beautiful new stadium on a beautiful MN summer day and you all have to turn that into hateful words, and thoughts.

  16. Kellym says:

She was right behind me and was very nice. We got to chat with her and Portia welcoming them to Minnesota and to enjoy their stay. They were BOTH very nice!!

  17. meow says:

WE … LOVE … ELLEN !!! she is my hero. I hope she has an amazing stay in our beloved land of the Twin Cities. THANK YOU SO MUCH for coming here Ellen and PLEASE do come back often to visit. Ellen you brighten our days!!!

  18. Elizabeth says:

Does anyone know where she may be making other apperances? I would love a chance to see her! Amazing woman that does so much good for others!

  19. United Minnesotans are Strong says:

Will God love gay people for loving or love bigots for hating? Answer it for yourself and mind your own business.

Also, Vote “NO” on the marriage amendment in 2012.
