MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — President Barack Obama is in Minnesota.

Air Force One landed at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Monday morning where the president then boarded a bus for his three-day tour through Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois.

He’ll hold five town hall events during the tour, beginning in Cannon Falls, about 40 miles south of the Twin Cities.

“Stop coddling the super-rich,” Warren Buffett says
Billionaire urges lawmakers to raise taxes on rich to help cut budget deficit

      1. Warren Buffett contradicting the says:

Here is the original article in the New York times: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/15/opinion/stop-coddling-the-super-rich.html
        A must read article.

“Last year my federal tax bill — the income tax I paid, as well as payroll taxes paid by me and on my behalf — was $6,938,744. That sounds like a lot of money. But what I paid was only 17.4 percent of my taxable income — and that’s actually a lower percentage than was paid by any of the other 20 people in our office. Their tax burdens ranged from 33 percent to 41 percent and averaged 36 percent.” Warren Buffett wrote in this extraordinary and honest article.

        1. Why? says:

Exactly who cares what that rich old liberal obama-lover buffet has to say anyway?

          1. Jim says:

Because he’s the kind of rich person that the GOP is trying to convince you needs tax breaks. Seemed obvious to me.

            1. bill says:

That would be true if Buffet was calling for “wealth” taxes instead of income taxes. Wealth is not taxed – which he has plenty of. His income is probably not that high given his deductions for contributions to his liberal foundations.

Any way you look at it the government has way too much money already, proposing to give them more makes him an idiot, albeit a wealthy idiot

            2. Benjamin says:

Looks like Warren only employs 20 people in his office. His income is derived from stock earnings not running and operting a small business.
Giving someone like Warren a tax break does nothing to the economy as he would only pocket the extra. Lowering taxes on small business is a whole different story

          2. Amy says:

I think he’s the second richest American, that is why it matters.

            1. louie says:

              Great distinction,

Isn’t it great how the left likes to though out two terms as if they are related. They try to link income taxes with a rich old miser sitting on his money at his beach house with his private jet next to it.

People, when they are talking income taxes, they are talking taxing people who work for their money. They want to tax the highest income earners.

Across the board we should all pay tax. I would feel guilty going to lunch every day and having some rich guy buy my lunch. Let’s all pay some percentage of our income. Make it fair across the board.

Then you leaches may feel differently about stealing from someone else just because you think they have two much income.

              1. Iconoclast says:

A person making $23001 per year pays 12% of their income to taxes. You think that’s ok?

                1. bill says:

No, everyone pays way too much in taxes.

                2. louie says:

They do not, they get it all back in a refund.

                3. Les Johnson says:

Only overpayment of taxes is refunded.

      2. Joe Hanson says:

You’d think if Buffett thought the Government needed more moeny he would’ve sent a $31 billion check to the US Treasury instead of the Gates Foundation.

He’s doing something good for humanity. But in your opinion, at what point can you say someone has too much money. He’s trying to make the point that the SUPER-RICH ARE NOT AFRAID TO INVEST BECAUSE OF TAXES. THEY WILL INVEST AND TAKE WHAT THEY CAN GET NO MATTER THE TAX RATE. MORE MONEY IS STILL MORE MONEY.

At what point will rich and super rich say: ‘you know what I have too much and don’t need any more breaks to make even more money which I already do not need because I could never spend all of it if I lived to be ten thousand years old.

          1. Iconoclast says:

“At what point will rich and super rich say: ‘you know what I have too much and don’t need any more breaks to make even more money which I already do not need because I could never spend all of it if I lived to be ten thousand years old.”

Never. Greed is such that they want to never be able to spend it all if they and every member of their family and descendants each lived to be ten MILLION years old. They want to horde it and keep it from everybody else. Keeping others down is the only way the rich can stay rich.

            1. lester says:

At what point do people stop being jealous and go out and make their own money?

              1. Les Johnson says:

You’re suggesting people can decide to be rich, after living a life so far that has not led them to be rich? Talk about stupid.

    4. katie says:

I cant not stand this administration… Minnesota is broke as well as the rest of the country because we pay people to sit and home and have babies that they cannot afford…that is the bottom line….cut those useless programs and we would have a surplus in an instant.

      1. Iconoclast says:

Which useless programs did Obama start that Bush didn’t have that you’re so upset about, Katie?

        Please be specific.

        1. spensor says:

All of Obama’s, Bush’s, and Clinton’s programs that reward people for being irrisponsible.

Who cares who created it, it is wrong.

          1. Les Johnson says:

I believe he asked for specifics, which you quite clearly cannot or will not provide. My guess is “cannot.”

  2. dan says:

So he’s not on a campaign but .”…plans to draw sharp contrast between himself and Republicans”
Sounds like he is still continuing his 2008 campaign, now just on the public dollar.
Should be entertaining to see how he tries to ignore his 3 year failed experiment on the economy. Just shows how little he knows.

    1. Mitch says:

I think that he is trying to get people to pressure their representatives. People need to apply the pressure to create jobs. All of these cuts have not and will not improve the economic situation. He has to sell the Fair Balanced approach which includes higher taxes for the richest Americans. http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-ticker/buffett-blasts-low-taxes-billionaires-says-congress-must-142239366.html

      1. Reality sucks says:

You are right on the money Mitch—his campaign is to get the people to pressure Reps and Sens. There’s a big date coming up that is being ignored—strange. September 30th is the end of the governement fiscal year and there’s a lot to figure out with the stop-gap debt deal. Everyone (media) will talk about that Thanksgiving date for the dirty dozen but we could very well see a shut-down threat for Oct. 1. And I think it’s very probable that we will.

        1. larry says:

          Totally wrong again,

          How about we cut spending?

I can’t believe how much cool aid you people drink.

          1. Iconoclast says:

You must follow the tenets of Michele Bachmann who declared that we must cut taxes on the wealthiest of the wealthy because then they’ll make jobs for poor people, and then everybody is happy.

I mean dang, you support a human being who would say that? I find that mind boggling.

            1. waste says:

You are such an idiot. Did I say cut taxes for anyone?

You people are so drunk on cool aid you can’t see the end of your nose.

Ok, I will make it simple. There are 15 million illegals in this country. Unemployment is high, get rid of the illegals and employ Americans. How much free medical care, services, anchor babies are we paying for?

Two, there is a mother of 8 kids in Minnesota who receives $43,200 per year so she can work a part time job. Are you crazy? Tell her to stay home and we save 43,200 for just this one person.

Three, cut all programs by 12%. Everything. I can guarantee the employees of these programs will then tell you where the waste is.

Four, require all government workers to blow the whistle on waste. If they see a mother like above, or a hammer costing $150, etc, etc, etc, they should be required to report it. How can our taxes be robbed from us and distributed by people who we do not trust to spend it wisely.

I mean, come on… You don’t think there is a butt load of waste?

              1. Les Johnson says:

Your example of the MN mom is irrelevant. Obama does not create MN welfare programs.

The butt load of waste was how many words you typed to say nothing at all.

  3. Boondoggle says:

Get back to Washington and get to work.

He spent the last two years playing golf, now he gets into campaign mode, travels around with abteam of speech writers, has his storm troopersnload the audience, they set up pre-practiced questions, and the almighty answers them.

    What a load of b.s.

His guy is in way over his head.

      1. Carl says:

52 times in just over 2 years. Check it out on humanevents.com Thats once a week considering he lives in a winter climate. Not bad for a President in one of the worst economies

        1. Iconoclast says:

You weren’t a math major, were you Carl…

  4. Give me liberty says:

  6. Iconoclast says:

A collection of the stupidest comments and commenters possible, all gathered together to bleat like sheep about things they know nothing of to begin with. Almost comical really.

    1. GS says:

      Thank you Iconoclast
I need more people like you working for me so I can make my plan for America a reality. Your friend, George Soros.

    2. jordanj says:

Iconoclast….their comments are not the same as yours so they are stupid? Guess who is stupid? This is what we do here, comment! If you cannot listen to others, stay off CBS MN.

      1. Jim says:

His comment was that the comments are stupid. This is what people do here, comment. If you don’t like Iconoclast’s comments maybe you should try a website that does not allow them?

  7. DB says:

  8. Matt says:

do you idiots really believe all that lies you are saying?

  9. Gloria says:

I wish I would have taken the day off to travel to Cannon Falls to see my President. (I’m from Central MN.) There is a lot of work to be done, to be sure, but our President inherited a huge mess: 2 wars (unpaid for) and a grim economy. I believe he has the good of the country at heart–much more so than the Repubs or T-Partiers.

Glad you’re visiting my state, Mr. President.

    1. Matt says:

GOP is focused their 4 years on blaming Obama for those 2 wars he inherited

      1. the crux of the biscuit says:

Wow, you libs just can’t stop blaming Bush can you? I mean forget the fact that be promised to close Gito and didn’t, and went along in another war in Libia. But we won’t talk about that because it negates your arguments.

        1. Tom L says:

youre right, its wasnt Bushies fault he was so gullible as to believe the lies his own administration was telling him about the phantom WMD’s Iraq supposedly had. Blame it on his mother, Babs.

close gitmo and bin Laden would still be alive….you remember, that silly killer guy Bushy couldnt find for the 8 yrs he was in office, studying his hooked on phonics booklets that never did him any good.

Lybia is a rogue nation hell-bent on killing their own defenseless people. And theres oil in them thar hills…..of course we’re going to intervene. Any prez regardless of political party would have done the same. Its wasnt just an Obama thing.

          1. leroy says:

Even Obama’s administration had to admit that Osama was found using intel from when Bush was in office.

            Get your facts straight.

            1. Tom L says:

dont believe i said otherwise, genius.

              learn to read a post.

typical GOP’er….read what it wants to read.

    2. I'm Just Sayin says:

Yes President Obama did inherit all of this, because he voted “Present” instead of debating the merits of each of his actions. Pretty typical for him now that I look at things in hind sight.

      1. leroy says:

So what you libs are saying is, “Obama can’t fix anything” He inherited it all?

I believe he was part of a time when the democrats controlled the house and the senate. 2006 – 2010

I believe he was president when he had all three branches controlled by Democrats. 2008 – 2010

        And he couldn’t even pass a budget…

Did you hear that, all three branches and he could not pass a budget.

There you libs…. There are some facts for you..

  10. Matt says:

The GOP does not have a clue on how to fix this country. We need to get out of debt and we can not do that with their plans. One we do need to cut spending, Two we need to increase taxes and offer tax breaks to companies that create jobs after they create the jobs. Three we need to cut government pensions and remove the tax cap from social security

    1. Waiting for the day... says:

No one knows how to fix this country. Time for Jesus to return! He’d really fix everything…cause when he comes back none of this will matter.

      1. Les Johnson says:

Jesus the illegal alien? Ship him back to Mexico. We don’t want his kind here.

  11. Victoria says:

    Thank you.

    Gloria & Matt

    1. Gloria says:

      You’re welcome, Victoria!

      Obama/Biden 2012!!

      1. David says:

A majority of the Republicans / Tea baggers have no economic logic. They probably make an average income blow 70k and vote against their own interest bc they allow Rush and Fox news do the thinking for them.

        Obama / Biden 2012!

  12. Chill says:

Wow, apparently tea party extremists LOVE WCCO… lots of anger, not much content. Seriously, does anyone here think a president can single handedly solve all (inherited) problems or single handedly destroy the country? You must not be very familiar with our three branches of government!

Rather than posting rude, angry comments, here is a list of videos that will be more to your liking…

    1. I'm Just Sayin says:

Here here Chill, lets list our presidents accomplishments… wating, waiting, cue crickets. Oh I know, he has successfully blamed every ill on the former administration and taken credit for……. Damn those crickets. What you are not admitting is that he was and still is part of the problem. He voted for EVERYTHING that he “inheritted” from the prior administration. By voting “opresent” instead of voting against or entering in debate, he in essence agreed to everything that he “inheritted.”

      1. I've got 2 says:

1: He let the Navy do their jobs when they shot those somali pirates that one Easter morning.

2: He allowed himself to get dragged kicking and screaming into the room where the military guys explained to him how there were going to get bin laden and how he was going to stay out of it until the deal was done.

        1. Iconoclast says:

That was actually Seal Team 6, not the Navy, technically.

    2. G. Soros says:

      Thank you Chill
I need more people like you to work harder working for me so I can make my plan for America a reality. Your friend, George Soros.

  13. Woof, woof, sayeth the gov ... says:

Hey, let’s not forget our gov … ol’ crazy eyes himself! He’s just standing there looking like a drugged up dingus. Then he follows the chosen one like a puppy dog.

    Ain’t it jus’ cute???

    1. Who's driving the fail bus says:

Gov’ner google eyes or is the 0bama the “debt man” driving?

  14. Scott says:

see that is the problem…..gloria dont put blame on something that happen before him…the we might as well put blame on Clinton then for getting us in this mess..Let see Clinton could have take out Bin Ladin I think 3 times..Clinton passed the bill that EVERY one should beable to buy a house no matter what there income was…and Obama He has spent more money then G.B did in 8 yrs…Obama has more miles on airforce one then any other even in a 8 yr term..this guy does not know how to run any thing…and if you can name one thing that he promsied he was going to do when he got in office…becaue I sure cant…he has not done a good job at all…I am so glad he will be done in 2012..and I think he knows it the country knows it..its a shame he is turing this coutry up side down..his rating is at a all time low for any one…your glad he is in our state for what…Like they say you cant ask him the question you really want to they wont let us…to me its a sad day that he is in our state…

    1. lee says:

      Excellent quote Scott

  15. just sayin says:

There is no way he’s going to win 2012. He’s toast.

    1. Reality sucks says:

Agree. With his ratings dipping below 40% and his inability to pull it together (LEAD) I think he’s unintentionally playing right into the (R)’s hand. The Republicans will play this out with a threat of a shut-down on 10/1 then they will continue with the dirty dozen debat thru December and throw full force attack on him thru Nov. 2012. Up first: There isn’t much time between Sept. 7 when the summer recess ends and Sept. 30 when the fiscal year funding runs out.

  16. Gloria says:

Of course, rarely do Presidents deliver on very many of their campaign promises. (If I were a candidate for something, I wouldn’t “promise” anything; I’d tell people what I “hope” to accomplish, what my ideasand goals are, and what I think are the best ways of achieving said goals.

Presidents cannot just fulfill everything they’d like to on their own…case in point…the recent debt crisis, etc. There are three (3) branches of government, not just one (1).

    1. Reality sucks says:

Yes, Gloria but he is the “Commander in Chief” therefore you can’t coddle him for certain promises to end wars and start new conflicts –or rotting corpses in Cuba.

    2. dan says:

GITMO, open all meetings to CSPAN, and extending Bush tax cuts all fall squarely on Obamas inept ability to stand behind his words.

  17. Gloria says:

Sorry…I forgot the end “)” in my comment, and there should be a space between “ideas” and “goals”.

    1. Fact says:

its okay Gloria, nobody is listening to you anyway

  18. lynn says:

Wow, just listened to the first couple of questions from a “Non-controlled audience”.

Seriously, the first four questions were plants about his stimulus package.

If everyone was speaking German, it would remind me of some propaganda movies from the late 1930’s.

Did Dayton just Goose-Step off the stage behind Obama?

  19. StraycatStrut says:

Didn’t know there was a bus from the airport to Cannon Falls. Think he has to tranfer off Hennepin Ave first does he not?

  20. Jake says:

Did obama have a manure spreader hitched to the back of his $1.1 MILLION dollar RV? It would have been appropriate.

  21. Pete says:

What an honor for our family to watch AF1 land then be able to meet the President, both Senators and our Governor, wow. Our grand kids will have some really cool stuff for show and tell this year. I never thought I would shake hands with the President of the USA, regardless of his politics it was an honor still and a thrill.
