Sheriff, Bystanders Rescue Man From Burning Truck

DRUMMOND, Wis. (AP) -- Bayfield County's sheriff and 2 bystanders pulled a driver to safety from his burning pickup truck.

Sheriff Paul Susienka says he was on his way to the office Tuesday morning when he saw the burning vehicle in Drummond. The sheriff radioed for help, then he and two men used fire extinguishers to knock down the flames and pull the driver from the cab.

Susienka says the 51-year-old man suffered extensive burns. The Duluth News Tribune says he was airlifted to a Duluth, Minn., hospital where he's in serious condition.
