Chemical Explosion Puts Patrick Henry HS In Lock Down

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A demonstration gone wrong due to a chemical explosion put Patrick Henry High School under lock down for a couple of hours Monday.

Minneapolis firefighters, including hazardous material crews, were called around 9:30 a.m. to the high school located at 4320 Newton Ave. N.

Upon arrival, they found a classroom with damage to a table and chairs but no fire. Officials say the chemical explosion occurred while a teacher was preparing for demonstration for students.

The school was immediately placed in lock down and evacuated once fire crews arrived on scene.

The Minneapolis Bomb Squad was also requested to the scene as a precaution.

Crews cleared the scene around 11:15 a.m.

The male teacher involved in the explosion was transported to North Memorial Medical Center for minor burns and cuts. His condition was not known.

There were no other injuries in the incident.
