University Of Minnesota Convocation Set

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Thousands of incoming freshmen will gather at Mariucci Arena for the University of Minnesota's 2011 convocation ceremony.

The event will have the traditional marching band and the maroon-and-gold regalia. Organizers are also saying that new university President Eric Kaler will also put his own stamp on ceremony.

Students will be introduced to the president in a YouTube-style video on the scoreboard before he starts his speech. And during that short speech, organizers say Kaler will present another surprise.

The ceremony is set to run from 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday.
