MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A driver is dead after police say a man stole a police car, fled the scene and hit another motorist.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Polk County. Police say the man, identified as 23-year-old Ricardo Mello, had a confrontation with a Crookston police officer and stole the officer’s police squad.
READ MORE: Minneapolis College: Bike Assembly And RepairHe then fled the scene, heading south on Main Avenue, lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Main and Old Highway 75 South and hit a Chevy pick-up truck.

Both vehicles were totaled.
