Man, 29, Charged With Murder In Parking Ramp Stabbing

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 29-year-old man has been charged in the stabbing death of his friend in a Minneapolis parking ramp early Monday morning, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

Kevin Lamont Mims of Minneapolis faces felony charges of second-degree murder and second-degree assault. The assault charge stems from stabbing wounds suffered by a second man.

According to the criminal complaint, Mims picked up three friends Sunday night, parked at a ramp at 318 2nd Avenue North and went to the Envy Club in downtown Minneapolis. Later, at approximately 3 a.m., the four friends returned to the car. There, Mims began to argue with the front seat passenger, identified as R.B. Mims.

Mims allegedly hit R.B. in the face, got on top of him and continued punching.

Then, Brian Dean Nelson, 20, of St. Paul got out of the backseat of the car and ran over to the passenger side door, opened it and attempted to pull Mims off of R.B., the complaint said.

At some point during the altercation, Mims allegedly produced a scissors and stabbed R.B. in the arm and Nelson twice -- once in the heart, the complaint said.

Prosecutors are seeking bail of $550,000 for Mims.
