Best Of MN: Where To Grab The Best Steak

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – WCCO-TV's Matt Brickman was looking for the perfect spot to take his wife to celebrate her new job, so he asked you for the "Best Steak in Minnesota" and you filled his Twitter stream with dozens of restaurants.

The top three vote getters were Manny's, Murray's and The Strip Club.

Matt's wife vetoed The Strip Club on name alone and Murray's was disqualified for their good-natured "bribe" of "free garlic toast." So, that left Manny's as your pick of the official mecca of meat in Minnesota.

"I think it's got to be the beef. It's all center cut. We're only taking the very best part of the meat, we're only taking the few select pieces out of the center," said Manny's Executive Chef Josh Hill.

But that doesn't come cheap. Manny's has steaks that'll put a serious dent in your wallet. Including a double porterhouse that's over $100.

"We're only using fifty or forty percent of the short loin, so it makes it that exclusive. You only get about two to four of these per animal," said Chef Hill.

Opting for something slightly less pricey, Matt went for Manny's Bludgeon of Beef. For $80 you get a fifty ounce cut, bone-in cut of some of the most tender steak you can find.

"This one is definitely not for the shy," said Chef Hill.

Matt needed the help of Photojournalist Joe Berglove to polish off the monster mound of meat and, needed a nap almost immediately after finishing. But would happily do it again.
