Wis. Alderman Accused Of Choking Pregnant Worker

RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- A Racine alderman is jailed on allegations he choked and hit a pregnant employee at the bar he owns.

The Racine County sheriff's office says 59-year-old Keith Fair was arrested early Sunday at his bar, Place on 6th. He was being held in lieu of $10,650 bond on suspicion of strangulation or suffocation, false imprisonment, battery and disorderly conduct.

He's accused of assaulting the employee, who was eight weeks pregnant, Friday night.

Sheriff Christopher Schmaling calls it "a brutal attack" and says Fair's alleged actions "are not only concerning, but alarming."

Authorities say they impounded a vehicle owned by Fair they believe may have been involved in the incident. Investigators also searched his home and bar.

Phone calls to Fair's home and bar seeking comment Sunday were not immediately returned.
