'Just 4 You Parents' Winner A Dedicated Father Of 3

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Each week, WCCO This Morning is rewarding a hard-working, dedicated parent who loves what they do.

Natalie Kane headed to Shakopee to surprise this week's winner at work.

Tony Calistro of Apple Valley is a dad to three boys.

"Without my kids, I just don't know where I would be. They are everything to me," he said.

And he's been working hard to give them the best life possible for more than 30 years.

"Parenting doesn't stop when your child turns 18," said Peg Lynch. "His kids are in their early 30s and 20s. He does whatever it takes to make sure they're comfortable and happy and successful."

His girlfriend Peg nominated him for the Just 4 You Parents prize to honor him as a father and mentor to his boys, who are now grown men.

"You bring this person into this world and you never stop caring for them or taking care of them, you just try and raise them as best you can," he said. "You help guide them. You can't tell them what to do, but you do try and guide them and show them right from wrong."

Because no matter the age, sometimes you just need dad.

"They come to him whether it's for emotional support or just to say dad, it's been a hard day," Peg said.

And if there is a hard day, dad sometimes goes without.

"All the kids this day in age are struggling," he said. "If I can help them a little bit to make their lives a little easier, I like to do that. The cracked windshield on my car will just have to stay another week or two. It's not about you anymore."

Congrats to Tony. For all his hard work, he was given four tickets to a Minnesota Wild hockey game.
