'U' Expert: We Need A Better Flu Shot
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Health officials say it's a good time to get a flu shot. But one expert says it's also time for a better vaccine.
"Safety-wise, no problem. Still go get it. But it's not doing the job we needed it to do," said Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.
Osterholm said his organization is working with industry, research and funding groups "to make sure that we can bring new and much better flu vaccines to the market that can protect us over many years, over many strains, and really do the job that it needs to do."

This year's vaccine is similar to last year's, with protection against H1N1 and three strains of the seasonal flu.
Even though this year's vaccine is unchanged you'll still need a shot since immunity isn't very long lasting.
