Wayzata Teacher Receives Prestigious, $25K Award

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A teacher at Wayzata West Middle School got a $25,000 surprise Monday morning when he received a prestigious teaching award.

A YouTube video captured the moment eighth grade math teacher Seth Brown received the news he'd won the Milken Educator Award.

Brown said he would use most of the $25,000 prize to pay for grad school. He said he'll also donate some of the money to the PTA that helped him buy technology equipment for his classroom.

Brown teaches his students using technologies such as SMART boards, social networks, Moodle, iPod Touches, online assessments, student response devices, and electronic grade books, according to the Milken Family Foundation website.

The Milken Educator Award seeks to publicly acknowledge the work of great teachers, principals and specialists across the country.
