Computer Glitch Affecting Flow Of Mpls. Traffic Lights

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Have you noticed the timing on traffic lights just a bit off while trying to navigate streets in Minneapolis? The city is aware of it and is currently attempting to fix it.

A power outage on Oct. 9 affected the center computer system that controls about 700 traffic lights in Minneapolis.

According to the city, the system generally coordinates the signals at different intersections to allow traffic to keep flowing. But because of the computer issues, the lights are not as coordinated and could interrupt traffic flow.

The city its working with software engineers to correct the issue but it could take several days until it's back working citywide.

Minneapolis is asking that citizens who do experience a significant issue with timing to contact them at 311 or by clicking here. The city will use that information to identify specific intersections that have issues and rule out intersections that are still working correctly.
