Charges: Man Accused Of Assault At Edina Movie Theater

EDINA, Minn. (WCCO) – A 19-year-old Bloomington man is accused of assaulting another man at an Edina movie theater after a verbal altercation during a movie Monday night, according to charges filed Friday in Hennepin County Court.

Randi Vongnalath was charged with one felony count of third-degree assault in connection with the incident.

According to a criminal complaint, Edina Police were called to the AMC Movie Theatre at Southdale at about 11:47 p.m. Monday on a report of a fight. When authorities arrived, an adult male victim told police he had been stuck in the face by an Asian male.

The victim said he had been watching the movie "Paranormal Activity" with his girlfriend when he got into a verbal altercation with two Asian men about noise they were making during the movie.

The dispute calmed down, but the victim and his girlfriend had to walk by the two men on their way out of the movie. One of the men struck the victim in the face, and he suffered broken bones in his nose, eye socket and jaw. One of the Asian men also reportedly had a knife, the complaint states.

Police eventually tracked down Vongnalath and got a positive ID from the victim. Vongnalath faces up to five years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines if convicted.
