Man Convicted Of Biting Minn. Mayor Gets 34 Months
HIBBING, Minn. (AP) -- A teen convicted of biting the Hibbing mayor's eyebrow and trying to rob him has been sentenced to nearly three years in jail.
Eighteen-year-old Thunder Cloud Rodriguez had pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted aggravated robbery and fifth-degree felony assault. He was sentenced Thursday to 34 months.
During the plea hearing, Rodriguez admitted he and two others demanded money from Mayor Rick Cannata in May. Rodriguez told the judge he began striking the mayor, then fled when he heard police coming.
Cannata chased him about half a block, where the two continued to wrestle. Rodriguez says at some point he bit Cannata.
A Daily Tribune report says one of the other suspects has been convicted and sentenced to 44 months in jail. Court proceedings for the other are ongoing.
