DOC: Fugitive Sex Offender Robbed School, Stole Bike

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The state corrections department says a fugitive level 3 sex offender who was arrested over the weekend was caught with burglary tools in his possession.

According to the department, 39-year-old Clarence Robinson also had a bicycle that they believe was likely stolen from a schoolyard. He was arrested Sunday morning and taken to Hennepin County Jail.

Robinson was previously convicted of sexual assault and multiple robberies.

He was on intensive supervised release for a 1997 first-degree burglary conviction in which he also sexually assaulted a woman. Under current sentencing guidelines, offenders can be released into the community after serving two-thirds of their sentence in prison.

He was released from prison on Oct. 27 and walked away from a halfway house on Nov. 1. The corrections department says Robinson had cut off his GPS-monitored ankle bracelet.

Robinson's sentence can't be extended beyond July 2014, but Hennepin County prosecutors will consider whether to press additional charges for the burglary of Anwatin Middle School.
