Man Critical After Bar Shooting In West St. Paul

WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police are investigating a bar shooting that left one man in critical condition early Wednesday morning in West St. Paul.

Officer said they were called to the Cherokee Tavern on Smith Ave. South around 2 a.m.

Police said a confrontation happened in the foyer between a group of individuals. One pulled out a gun and fired at least three shots, one of which hit the victim in the chest.

The victim's friends took him to United Hospital in St. Paul, but he was later transferred to Regions Hospital.

He has undergone surgery and is currently on breathing tubes.

Officers searched the area with the assistance of police dogs, but weren't able to find the person who fired the shots. Police are still talking with witnesses.

The name of the victim has not been released.
