Hastings Man Accused Of Peeping, Threatening Boy

HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) – A 34-year-old Hastings man is accused of peeping in on a young boy, showing him pornographic magazines and purchasing tobacco for him, according to charges filed Tuesday in Dakota County Court.

Thaddius Kevin Turner was charged with one felony count of interference with privacy in connection with the Dec. 7 incident.

According to a criminal complaint, Hastings Police were called to an apartment on Dec. 7 and took a statement from a woman who said her son called her because he was nervous and scared that Turner, their neighbor, would break into their apartment after threatening him and looking into their apartment windows.

The woman said the over the past couple months, her son had been spending time with Turner and said she was not comfortable with their relationship. Turner admitted at that time that he would purchase chewing tobacco, cigarettes and show the boy pornographic magazines. The woman told Turner to stay away from her son, the complaint states.

The boy later told police that he went onto the patio of his residence to take a phone call and saw Turner in the parking lot staring at the apartment. The boy asked Turner what he wanted, and Turner told him to "shut his mouth."

About two hours later, the boy noticed that Turner was staring at his apartment from the parking lot and was going to take a picture of him, but Turner was then standing outside his bedroom window looking into the apartment. When the boy saw him, Turner fled. The boy said he had a friendly relationship with Turner until recently. He also said Turner would smoke marijuana and drink in front of him, according to the complaint.

The boy told police that Turner had recently started harassing him, pounding on patio doors, calling him a "tattle tale" and making threats, including to assault him, according to the complaint.

Officers found Turner at his apartment, where he said several times he had not done anything to the boy. If convicted, Turner faces up to two years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines.
