DANUBE, Minn. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a 19-year-old man in a goose hunting accident near the southern Minnesota town of Danube.

The Renville County sheriff’s office says it got a 911 call on the shooting around 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Emergency responders arrived to find Nicholas J. Verdoes with a single gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

Sheriff Scott Hable says a group of hunters had been hunting geese together about a half mile north of Danube when one of the hunter’s guns accidentally discharged, striking the victim. None of the other hunters were injured.

That is just sad. CCO why show a pic of a 30:30, not a gun used for goose hunting

    1. RJL says:

Yeah, and the “orange” the dude in the pic is wearing isn’t even legal. I hope ‘CCO didn’t pay to much money for these stock photos.

to say that this was not an accident is outreageous. I personally know the victim that was killed and who was with him at the time. I cant imagine how the guy, whos gun went off, must feel. My prayers go out to his family and his friends who try and celebrate his 20th birthday which is today. My life will never be the same with out him, nor will hunting ever be the same be with out him. I love him and miss him already….

    Fly high buddy….

This is how in inept and out of touch WCCO has become with the rural community…cco attempting to report this unfortunate hunting accident but showing a hunter with a lever action rifle. For WCCO & non hunters,,,,,waterfowl hunters use a shotgun when hunting ducks and geese. My heart goes out to the victims family and friends…… it is always sad to see this type of accident.
