Rudimentary Bombs Lead To Charges For 3 Iowa Teens

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say three Mason City teenagers have been arrested and charged with reckless use of explosives.

The three boys were referred to Juvenile Court Services and later released to their parents on Sunday.

Officers found the "bottle bombs" sitting on a sidewalk. The bombs typically are created in a plastic bottle when an acid and base are mixed. The eventual explosion can cause burns.

The bombs were destroyed. No damage or injuries were reported.
