CBS challenged me to put together an outfit for $30. I came very close with this outfit, $33 at NuLook Consignment, which includes all clearance items that are perfect for fall and winter. So instead I put together and outfit for under $35 … still not bad.
The first piece of this outfit I found was the pink tweed jacket by Benetton. It is a striking jacket for winter (and probably next fall as well) looks brand new and was on clearance. The cut of the jacket is ideal for someone with a smaller bust (larger busts do better with more buttons) and the color would look good on someone with medium blonde or brown hair with rosy pink lips. Originally $32, clearance price $16.
I wanted to pair the jacket with something complimentary, interesting and winter appropriate. The purple argyle sweater vest provides a great foundation and is a close enough match to the pink in the jacket. While argyle is typically a traditional print, this color mix makes it more contemporary. Originally $16, clearance price $4!
The last piece of this look is a pair of grey wool pants. I can tell they are made of quality material and with a light pinstripe, it adds to the interest of this outfit. The style is classic and will wear well year-round. Originally $52, clearance price $13.
I would complete this outfit with a silver or gold beaded necklace, a pin or a scarf to continue the bold theme. For shoes, I would opt for a dark red, dark purple or pewter shoe. NuLook has both an extensive jewelry counter of consigned pieces as well as a basement room full of shoes and boots that are in excellent shape.READ MORE: 23 Minnesotans Sickened In Nationwide Salmonella Outbreak Tied To Imported Onions
General tips for making the most out of consignment stores include:
Creating a list before you head out to shop so you have an idea of what to focus on in terms of items as well as colors. You can always go beyond your list once you get to the store.
Look for the best quality pieces and build outfits around those. Jackets, skirts, pants, shoes and sweaters are worth investing in if they are in good shape and work for your body shape.
Remember to shop the clearance area for quality items at unbelievable prices.
Buy what looks good on you and fits today.
