Karate Teacher Indicted For Sexual Acts With Minors

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An Eden Prairie, Minn. karate teacher was indicted Tuesday for engaging in sexual acts with minors at a South Elgin, Ill. karate school.

According to the indictment, 43-year-old Dean Fuerstenberg took advantage of his position as an instructor and engaged in sexual acts with two female students between the ages of 13 and 18 between June 1, 2003 and Nov. 30, 2005.

Fuerstenberg was indicted Tuesday in Kane County on four counts of criminal sexual assault and six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Fuerstenberg was also indicted in 2011 in DuPage County for sexually preying on a minor. His next court appearance in that case is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 29.

An instructor at the National Karate school in Minneapolis said Fuerstenberg worked there as an instructor about 20 years ago. But he said Fuerstenberg was never accused of any wrong-doing.

In fact, the Hennepin County Attorney's office says Fuerstenberg has never been accused of, or charged with a crime while he has lived in Minnesota.

WCCO-TV contacted Fuerstenberg's wife at their Eden Prairie home, but she did not want to talk about the allegations.

He is currently in custody in Kane County with his bail set at $750,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 29 in Dupage County, Ill.
