Girl Gets 2 Years In Minneapolis Shooting Death

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 17-year-old girl from Blaine was sentenced to two years in prison on Thursday in connection with the shooting death of a man in south Minneapolis last January.

Lordiss Lorell Stewart pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery charge and had a first-degree murder charge dismissed in the case. Stewart, who was one of three suspects involved in the incident, was given credit for 370 days served.

According to court documents, police responded to a report of shots fired just before 10 p.m. on the night of Jan. 21, 2011, near the area of 36th Street East and Clinton Avenue in south Minneapolis. When authorities arrived, they found 58-year-old Stanley Rogers shot to death in his car. He suffered a gunshot wound to his chest.

A criminal complaint states that Stewart told Gary Tyrone Griffin that Rogers was coming to pick her up and that he often has crack cocaine and money on him. Griffin said he wanted to rob Rogers as soon as he got there, but Stewart told him to wait until she returned with Rogers. She sent Griffin a text message as they were approaching the house where Stewart was staying.

Griffin shot and killed Rogers and was later convicted of two murder charges and one aggravated robbery charge.
