MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minneapolis-based 934th Airlift Wing will lose its eight C-130 Hercules aircraft next year.

Air Force officials say 82 Air Force Reserve Command aircraft at bases across the country will be retired during the 2013 fiscal year.

The changes are in response to the Budget Control Act’s $487 billion in cuts from the defense budget, which will be implemented over the next decade. About $54 billion of those cuts will be applied to the Air Force.

A fighter wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard will remain in Duluth, allaying fears that the base would be closed.

Bases in 13 states will see changes in connection with the budget cuts.

Reduce our ability to defend ourselves, send our troops out of America, and we are left wide open for attack.

    Thank Pelosi, Reid and Obama.

By the way, I had a trillion dollars laying around here….has anyone seen where it went?

Check your facts, Randy. The Budget Control Act is a result of that Supercommittee accomplishing nothing. The idea of drastic budget cuts if that committee failed was presented to the Senate by Senate Minority Leader McConnell.

You should be thanking Pelosi, Reid and Obama for going along with this fantastic Republican idea.

OH my goodnes, we will just die without all them airo-planes, what ever will we do now!!!!! what a wast of money in the first place…….

    1. Dave says:

I’m deployed with these planes now. These planes do more in one single mission than you could hope to do in your entire life Rocky.

Is the wing being deactivated, Dave?

        1. Dave says:

You know what I know. However, unlike a typical BRAC this one is coming from the recommendations of the AF. Right now, hopefully, our house and senate reps. are pulling data and stats. to argue on our behalf.

our military (the fatest in the world) does not need half the toys it now has…..simply put………

    1. grumpygeezer says:

A weapons system is a toy? Poor choice of words. I suppose these are things that our military personel just play with.

      simply put

This is horrible! These guys work hard, have a great performance record, excellent maintenance on their C-130s!!! They will be expected to go to war, but forget taking care of them at home! Do they think a lot of these guys/women will even stay in the reserves?
