Authorities: Northfield Nursing Home Fire Intentional

NORTHFIELD (WCCO) -- A fire at a Northfield nursing home Sunday has been called intentional, according to police.

Deputy Chief Chuck Walerius of Northfield Police says a 46-year-old male resident of the Valleyview Assisted Living and Memory Care admitted to starting the fire.

The man has not been arrested, but has been placed on a psychological hold and is being evaluated at Hennepin County Medical Center today.

The fire started shortly after 7 p.m. at the facility, located on the 800 block of Linden Street North.

The facility's staff, along with emergency personnel, evacuated the building of its 38 residents. Firefighters said two of those residents needed to be rescued from their rooms. There were no injuries, authorities said.
