Patrol: 4 Women Confirmed Dead In Crash Near Alexandria

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota State Patrol has confirmed that four college-age women died in a head-on crash on Interstate 94 near Alexandria.

The crash happened in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 97 just after 3 p.m. Monday. Authorities say the four women were in a car heading west when they crossed the median and collided head-on with a car traveling in the eastbound lane.

Sources say some of the women were from the Twin Cities area and that some were students at North Dakota State University. The names of the women have not been released.

State Patrol Sergeant Sergeant Jesse Grabow said there are other injuries associated with the crash, which involved a three vehicles. Three people were injured in the crash and have since been released from local hospitals.

Radio station KFGO in Fargo says snow was reducing visibility on the interstate, and that the roadway was slippery at the time of the crash. The State Patrol said weather will be a factor in the investigation.

The eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed as the crash was investigated, but have since reopened.
