Man Dies Trying To Put Out Fire In Field In NW Minn.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a 63-year-old man was found dead Wednesday while trying to put out a fire in a field near his home in far northwestern Minnesota.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office responded to the fire at about 3:44 p.m. in the Barrett area. When they arrived, they found Charles Brian Olsen dead in a burned out plot of land just south of his home.

Authorities said Olsen owned the Pomme de Terre Nursery in the area. It appears a stump had been burning in Olsen's back yard and the fire quickly spread out to the field. Authorities said Olsen was trying to put out the flames when he either was overcome by the fire or died of an apparent medical event.

Olsen was by himself at the time of the fire.
