Police: Wis. Man Drunkenly Passes Bus, Gets 11th OWI

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 58-year-old man from Altoona, Wis., was arrested Friday afternoon for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after separate incidents involving a school bus, striking a mailbox and involvement in a hit-and-run, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

At about 3:40 p.m. Friday, a bus driver with the Bruce School Distric had a bus stopped and was preparing to let children off when the driver saw a vehicle passing the bus, authorities said. The car, being driven by Michael R. Malone, hit a mailbox.

Authorities pursued the vehicle and later learned that Malone was involved in a hit-and-run accident after the incident with the school bus. When authorities tracked down Malone, he was allegedly passed out after a citizen had gotten the keys to his vehicle to prevent another incident.

Malone was arrested and it was later learned to be his 11th operating while intoxicated offense.

The incidents are still under investigation by the Rusk County Sheriff's Office, the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
