Sock Monkey Fashionista's Next Big Thing

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Rebecca Yaker may have been known for her sock monkey fashion, but she's now moving on.

She can work wonders with a yard of fabric and now she wants to prove that you can as well.

"I have made many things inspired by the beloved sock monkey," says Yaker.

Rebecca has made clothing items such as dresses, T-shirts, men's suits, and a bikini that were inspired by the children's toy. There's also a chair that she stores at her Northeast Minneapolis home that she would be willing to part ways with.

Yaker has corralled some of her sewing talents and co-authored "101 One-Yard Wonders" with fellow fabric buff Trish Hoskins.

"(The book) sets out to help crafters find a way to use their (fabric) stash," says Yaker.

Inside the book are ways to make clothing, bags and accessories using merely one yard of fabric.

A follow up to their first book is also in print. The books now include ideas from other crafters who submitted different ways to use one yard of fabric.

The local duo says they have secured a deal to have a third book published.
