NEW YORK (AP) — Freshman guard Andre Hollins scored 20 points, including five in overtime, and short-handed Minnesota beat Washington 68-67 on Tuesday night to advance to the NIT title game.

With the shot clock winding down and the Golden Gophers clinging to a one-point lead in the final minute, Hollins banked in an off-balance shot to put Minnesota up 68-65.

The top-seeded Huskies (24-11), who trailed by 15 late in the first half, sent the game to overtime when C.J. Wilcox stole the ball and drove for the tying layup with 16.3 seconds left.

Wilcox had a good look at a potential tying 3-pointer in the final seconds of overtime, but the ball bounced off the rim. Darnell Gant put back the miss to pull Washington within a point, but after Julian Welch missed two free throws with 3.5 seconds remaining, Abdul Gaddy’s desperation shot from beyond midcourt fell well short.

The sixth-seeded Golden Gophers (23-14) will face Stanford in Thursday night’s final.

Good work Tubby! These Gophers are showing they should have received a ticket to the Final Four tournament!

NCAA ??? Quite a reach IMO.
That would have been an easy one and done as the quality of the team would have crushed them on Day 1.
They are growing and learning and may be a force next year if they get Trevor to hang around and the kids keep developing.

I’m not so much a Tubby boy – he cannot seem to make the adjustments to a game on the fly. They totally owned the first half and that was by playing small mostly and up tempo and swinging the ball.
Second hal they play big way to much, to long and it almost cost the game. The Huskies could NOT handle a small quick team. They had no problem with the big and slow version.
I tip my hat to the kids – tremendous effort and not a drop of the quit blood that has symbolized the Giffy’s for far to long.
    Great job guys, great job!

COME ON MAN! South Dakota State University on our southwestern border in Brookings, SD destroyed Washington by 20 early in the season on Washington’s HOME court! This was not Kentucky or Kansas the Goph’s were playing.

The Gopher Mens Football and Basketball programs have become so irrelevant that the once mighty, but now sad, WCCO doesn’t carry them anymore.

One more win and the Gophers will have a legitimate claim to being the 69th best team in the country.

Or maybe in the 50’s – the lower seed NCAA gift-in teams pretty poor.
I like the improvement they showing and love the gut check they doing. There’s hope with this club, more than I’ve smelled in awhile.
Now if Trevor and Royce White were on the bench too – I’d look at a sweet 16, maybe more.

Now as far as a contract ext for Tubby and at what rate…’s where I stand back and say it’s a 2 year at the same $$ until you show you can earn it
